Ray Peterson has new neighbours. Only these don't seem to be everyday people. They prefer not to show themselves during the day, and dig pits in their backyard at night. All this is enough for the neighbourhood to label the new neighbours as demonic cultists who kill people. When an old man in the street suddenly disappears, Peterson and his neighbours shy away from using any means to prove the alleged murder.
