Gaming when it’s cold outside, a relaxing game after you come home from a long day or just to get away from everything: cosy games give you that relaxing feeling. We’ve put all the best cosy games together for you.

What are cosy games?

A cosy game is an easy-going game with a warm atmosphere and a relaxing tempo. More players are discovering this genre, because they want to escape the hectic of action and shooter games and like to walk around in a friendly, worry-less world. In cosy games, you build an environment or community by gardening, fishing, mining, completing missions and forming friendships with characters around you. Because of the relaxing gameplay, cosy games are suitable for all ages as well as new and experienced gamers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the most beloved cosy games. You arrive on an island where you gradually build up the community. Time moves in sync with real life and the seasons change automatically. In December, for example, you’ll find festive items to make your home feel even cosier. You collect materials, craft furniture and decorations, help island residents with their requests, and make the island an even nicer place to live. If you play with friends, you can visit each other’s islands and exchange gifts.

Pokémon Pokopia

Pokémon Pokopia hasn’t been released yet, but it’s already shaping up to be a wonderfully cosy game. You create a living world for yourself and various Pokémon to feel at home in. By building areas that match their preferences, new Pokémon will appear and you’ll unlock extra abilities. For example, Bulbasaur makes grass grow, Squirtle waters your crops, and Hitmonchan trains on a punching bag you place for him. Professor Tangrowth guides you on an adventure with a mysterious twist, because no one knows where that enigmatic white Pikachu comes from.

Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home

Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home is the latest game in the long-running series that began on the SNES back in 1996. You maintain a farm by planting crops, taking care of animals such as chickens and cows, exploring the mines, fishing for ingredients for your meals and riding your hoverbike through the village. By completing tasks, deepening relationships and taking part in events, you gradually unlock more content and help Alba grow into an attractive village for new residents.

Disney Dreamlight Valley combines cosy gameplay with a nostalgic Disney atmosphere. Together with familiar characters such as Mickey Mouse, Elsa, Olaf, Moana, Ariel, Jack Skellington and Wall-E, you restore the Valley that fell into decay due to The Forgetting. You gather materials, decorate your surroundings, complete quests and keep expanding your world. Regular free updates add new characters, missions and Star Paths that let you earn unique items. There are also expansions with new areas and Disney characters who need your help.

Stardew Valley

Villagers gather on bright grass, forming lines around couples in white, celebrating a colourful festival among blossom trees

Stardew Valley feels like a retro classic. You arrive with a small starting budget and some basic tools, then build a new life on a run-down farm. You grow crops, take care of animals, fish to earn money and gather wood and ore to further develop your farm. Getting to know the residents of Pelican Town is part of the experience, as relationships and friendships play a big role. If you build a strong bond with a villager, it might even lead to marriage. Stardew Valley also includes a multiplayer mode, so you can play the game entirely together.
