As the proud owner of a Dolce Gusto capsule coffee machine, you know that regular maintenance is essential. One of the most important maintenance tasks is descaling your machine. Here's a simple and effective way to do it.

How does limescale build up in my Dolce Gusto?

A black Krups coffee machine dispenses layered coffee into a glass. Wooden cutting boards and a vase with wheat decorate the white countertop.

Limescale forms when calcium and magnesium minerals naturally present in water build up on the heating elements and inside the pipes of your Dolce Gusto machine. Over time, these deposits can reduce the machine's performance and affect the taste of your coffee and other drinks. Regular descaling removes these deposits, helping your machine perform at its best and ensuring consistently great-tasting coffee.

Descaling your Dolce Gusto is easy and essential for removing limescale. For the best results, use the Krups Descaling Kit, which has been specially developed for Dolce Gusto machines.

Follow these steps:

  1. Mix equal parts descaling solution and water in a measuring jug with a capacity of at least 500 ml.
  2. Fill the water tank of your Dolce Gusto with the mixture up to the maximum level.
  3. Place a large empty container or cup beneath the coffee outlet.
  4. Switch on the machine and run the solution through the system as if you were preparing a coffee. Continue until the water tank is empty.
  5. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and refill it with fresh water.
  6. Run a full tank of clean water through the machine to remove any remaining descaling solution.
  7. Before preparing your next coffee, make sure all removable parts have been thoroughly rinsed. This will keep your Dolce Gusto in excellent condition.

Can I descale my Dolce Gusto with vinegar?

It’s not recommended to descale your Dolce Gusto using cleaning vinegar or household vinegar. Vinegar is too aggressive and may damage the machine's internal components. It can also leave behind residues that affect the taste of your drinks. Instead, always use a descaling product specifically designed for coffee machines. This will help extend the lifespan of your Dolce Gusto while preserving the quality of every cup.

How often should I descale my Dolce Gusto?

To keep your Dolce Gusto capsule machine in good condition and maintain consistent coffee quality, descale it about every 2 to 3 months.
