Have you just bought a new TV and want to enjoy it to the fullest? Then make sure you hang it at the right height. You don't want to constantly look up or bend your neck too far because the screen is hanging too low. In this article, you can read step by step how to position your TV correctly for maximum viewing comfort.

Hanging a TV on the wall: important steps for the right choice

An LG TV is wall-mounted in a stylish living room with a wooden cabinet, orange pouffe, and decorative accessories.

By hanging your TV on the wall, you save space, create a sleek look and enjoy your favourite series, movies and games comfortably. At least, if the TV is at the right height. But how exactly do you determine the right height? That depends on several factors, such as the size of your TV, the distance to your seat, and your own eye level. Let’s help you get started:

A large TV (85-88 inch) is wall-mounted above a modern wooden and white cabinet, with plants on both sides in a minimal room.

What size is your TV?

To determine the optimal height for your TV, first measure the height of the TV screen (from bottom to top). Divide that height into 3 equal horizontal parts. The correct hanging height is around the top third. For example, is your TV 60 cm high? Then make sure that the top 20 cm hangs at eye level and the rest below. This way, you can always look at your screen in a relaxed way.

What is the best viewing distance to your TV?

The further you sit from the TV, the higher you can hang the screen. If you sit closer, a slightly lower position is more comfortable, so you don't have to look up all the time. The viewing distance also affects the sharpness of the image. If you sit too close to a large TV, you will see individual pixels more quickly. If you sit too far from a smaller TV, you will miss details. By combining the right distance with an appropriate mounting height, you get the most out of your TV, both in terms of comfort and image quality.

What is the optimal eye level to the TV?

Now that you know what size TV you have and at what distance you are watching, your eye level is the last factor to consider. Sit in your favourite viewing position and measure the height of your eyes from the floor. The top third of your TV is ideally at this eye level. This way, you don't have to bend or stretch your neck and maintain a natural and comfortable line of sight.

Mounting the TV at the right height

If you bring all these factors together: TV size, viewing distance and eye level, you can hang your TV at the most comfortable height. Place your screen directly opposite your favourite seat and make sure that the top third of the screen is at eye level. This way, you create an ergonomic and comfortable viewing experience.

Which TV mounting bracket fits the TV?

Not every room requires the same hanging solution. Do you want to save space in a smaller room, such as a bedroom or student room? Then it's useful to hang the TV a little higher on the wall. In that case, a tiltable wall mount is extremely suitable: you can then tilt the screen slightly downwards for a more comfortable viewing angle. In an open space, such as a loft or a living room with an open kitchen, a swivel wall mount is a smart choice. This allows you to easily rotate the TV to different angles, so you have a good view everywhere.
