CAT6 U/UTP slimline datacenter ethernet cables have a smaller diameter (3.8mm vs 5.9mm) than regular CAT 6 patch cables. The bending radius is also smaller compared to regular patch cables. All this ensures better airflow in the network cabinet/server rack.

Although ISO / IEC and TIA standards describe the use of patch cords between 22 and 26 AWG, it is possible to use 28 AWG patch cables. This will result in higher attenuation, especially at higher frequencies.

In addition, ACT recommends a maximum bundle size of 24 cables in PoE applications. So that temperature increases in the cables (when using PoE applications) can be limited. The current standard, (ANSI TSB-184-A), limits the maximum temperature increase, to less than 15 degrees Celsius above ambient temperature, for the central cable in a bundle.
