Susanne Kröhmer is a hard-working lawyer who is always looking for the golden mean between career and private life. One day in her city, a rift occurs between the two major political parties in power. The cause is the death of a corrupt real estate developer, whom Susanne had known since childhood. New elections are coming up, and in them the Conservatives seem to have no chance against incumbent Mayor Degenhardt. To everyone's surprise, Susanne seizes her chance to run for office. In doing so, she is asking for trouble with her father, the leader of the Conservatives, who has all sorts of shady deals with Degenhardt. As election day approaches, Susanne falls further and further behind in the polls. Noticing that she is being opposed from various sides, she decides to take countermeasures that aren't so neat either. But then she discovers she is pregnant, and will have to decide how far she is willing to go to complete her nearly impossible mission....
