Nathalie is a professor of philosophy at a Paris lyceum. She is passionate about her job and loves to communicate her feelings about thinking. She is married, has two children and divides her life between her family, her former students and her very possessive mother. Until one day her husband comes to tell her that he is leaving her for another woman. She is suddenly faced with a new freedom and is forced to reinvent herself.

L'Avenir is a film by Mia Hansen- Lève (Le père de mes enfants, Un amour de jeunesse) starring Isabelle Huppert (Elle, Amour, La Pianiste). The remaining cast includes André Macom, Edith Scob and Roman Kolinka. The film premiered at this year's Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear for Best Direction.
