Why is there a special return procedure?

The iPhone 18 Pro Max contains a powerful battery and, once activated, is subject to specific transport regulations (UN3481). For safety reasons, the device cannot be returned via the standard postal return process. Do you want to return your iPhone? Please follow the instructions below. These instructions explain step-by-step how to safely prepare the device for return. Would you prefer not to prepare the device yourself? You can also return your iPhone to one of our MediaMarkt stores, where our specialists will handle the return process for you.

Note: Your iPhone might temporarily become warmer than usual after you use the “Prepare to Ship” option. This change in temperature is expected while the battery discharges, and the temperature returns to normal after the process is complete. During this time, you can continue to use your iPhone normally, and you receive a notification when your iPhone is ship ready. You don’t need to use “Prepare to Ship” if you’re traveling with your device.

Important: never disable “Prepare to Ship”

When “Prepare to Ship” is enabled, the device stays locked for 14 days –neither you nor Apple can disable this state. After the lock expires, “Prepare to Ship” could technically be disabled in the iPhone settings .

Important: please never disable “Prepare to Ship” –the “Ship Ready” status has to stay active until your device reaches us, also after the 14 days. Only then can we take care of the shipping for you; otherwise you are liable for the device yourself.

This only works as long as your device isn’t locked into Prepare to Ship (through Device Return Manager or the 14-day lock period).
