Apple has introduced a new MacBook model: the MacBook Neo. Available in 4 fresh colours, this laptop is the new entry-level model in the MacBook family. It brings the familiar power of macOS and Apple hardware to a wider audience, without needing to step up to a more powerful MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. If you are looking for a MacBook for studying, work or everyday use, the MacBook Neo is a practical option. The laptop is light and compact, so it fits easily in your bag when heading to school, the office or travelling. The battery lasts through a full working day, so you can keep working without connecting the charger. The 13-inch Liquid Retina display delivers a bright, high-contrast picture, while the built-in dual speakers provide clear, immersive sound.

MacBook Neo: design

The MacBook Neo follows Apple’s familiar design language: clean, durable and compact. You can choose from 4 colours: silver, indigo, blush and citrus. Blush and citrus are bolder than the standard MacBook colours and stand out more. Want your laptop to make a statement? Choose citrus or blush. Prefer a more classic look? Silver is the traditional MacBook colour, while indigo is subtle but still distinctive.

The MacBook Neo weighs 1.23 kilogram and features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display. Its compact size and low weight make it easy to carry in a backpack or laptop bag. The MacBook Neo also includes 2 USB-C ports: one for charging and one for connecting external displays and accessories.

MacBook Neo: chip

The MacBook Neo runs on the A18 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 16 Pro. Apps open quickly, multitasking stays smooth and AI tools run efficiently. If you often work with several apps at the same time, such as your browser, documents you are working on and a video call, the MacBook Neo continues to run smoothly thanks to the A18 Pro chip, 8 GB of RAM, a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. In short, the different cores divide the workload between tasks, helping the MacBook maintain smooth performance when you are multitasking.

The A18 Pro chip also includes a Neural Engine. This component is designed specifically for AI tasks, allowing Apple Intelligence features and other AI tools to run quickly and efficiently.

Battery and storage

If you take your laptop with you everywhere, battery life matters. The MacBook Neo offers up to 16 hours of battery life, which in practice means you can work for a full day without needing to look for a power socket.

The MacBook Neo is available with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. 256 GB is more than enough for documents, apps and a collection of photos. If you store files in the cloud, such as iCloud or SharePoint, 256 GB is usually more than sufficient. If you mainly work offline or run larger apps such as Adobe Photoshop or games, the 512 GB version is the better option.

Keyboard and Touch ID

The MacBook Neo is available in 2 versions. The model with 256 GB of storage includes a power button that also serves as a lock key, allowing you to turn your Mac on or off or lock the screen. If you choose the 512 GB model, you also get Touch ID. This lets you unlock your Mac, confirm purchases and sign in with your fingerprint.

Also check the keyboard layout: the MacBook Neo is available in AZERTY and QWERTY versions.

Which operating system does the MacBook Neo run on?

Screen displays several windows – notes, email, onboarding guide and a web portal – all neatly arranged on a bright, tidy desktop.

The MacBook Neo runs on macOS Tahoe, the latest version of Apple’s macOS operating system designed specifically for Mac. macOS is known for its ease of use and smooth performance.

Do you already use an iPhone or iPad? Then macOS will feel familiar straight away. Many features work together within the Apple ecosystem, making it easy to exchange files, continue working on another device or connect your devices so they work together seamlessly.

Which Apple Intelligence features does the MacBook Neo support?

The MacBook Neo supports Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI system built directly into macOS. It gives you smart tools that help with everyday tasks, without needing to switch between separate apps all the time. The most useful Apple Intelligence features include:

  • Writing Tools: automatically proofread, rewrite or summarise text.
  • Genmoji: create your own emoji by typing a description, or combine different emoji into something new.
  • Clean Up: remove distracting elements from photos with a few clicks.
  • Notification summaries: long notifications are summarised so you can quickly see what matters most.
  • Smart photo search: describe photos you are looking for in your library. With enough photos, your MacBook can also recognise the faces of friends and family.
  • Siri with context: ask follow-up questions based on earlier requests or what is on your screen or in a screenshot.
  • Image Playground: create illustrations in different styles based on your description.

MacBook Neo vs. MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

Within the MacBook range, each model has its own role. Here is a quick overview of what each one offers, so you can choose the laptop that suits you best.

The MacBook Neo is the new entry-level model: a compact MacBook available in 4 fresh colours, designed for everyday work, studying and entertainment, with useful AI tools to help you along the way. It is also the MacBook to choose if you often work on the go, as its lightweight and compact design makes it easy to carry wherever you need to be.

Before the Neo was introduced, the MacBook Air was the entry-level model, but it sits one step higher in the range. With a more powerful chip and more RAM, it is better suited if you often multitask or keep several projects open at the same time. If you regularly work with demanding software such as Adobe Premiere or Blender, you will notice that extra power in faster performance.

The MacBook Pro is designed for intensive use, such as video editing, software development or other demanding workloads. It offers the most powerful chips, stronger graphics performance and more memory, helping large projects and professional apps run smoothly.
