Assassin's Creed Shadows is set in feudal Japan, specifically during the Azuchi–Momoyama period, which began in 1579. You’ll explore majestic Japanese castles, beautiful shrines, picturesque landscapes and bustling harbours. As in previous games in the series, historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga, the ‘Great Unifier’, and Fujibayashi Nagato, a master ninja of the Iga clan, play an important role in the story.

Who is the main character in Assassin's Creed Shadows?

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, there are 2 playable characters: the shinobi Naoe and the samurai Yasuke. Each character has a unique playstyle, allowing you to choose who to play as in order to adapt your mission tactics. Some quests, however, are specific to a particular character. Naoe, the archetypal assassin, moves skilfully through the shadows, uses smoke bombs for distraction and throws shuriken and kunai to keep enemies at a distance. She also wields the iconic hidden blade. Yasuke, on the other hand, relies primarily on his strength and has an arsenal of weapons such as naginata, kanabō, a bow and, of course, the katana – the classic weapon of a samurai.

The story of Assassin's Creed Shadows revolves around the 2 main characters, Naoe and Yasuke. Unlike Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the story is not linear; instead, you find yourself in a vast open world, similar to the map in Assassin’s Creed Origins. You’re given targets to eliminate, but the order is entirely up to you. Knowledge is power, so it’s important in Assassin’s Creed Shadows to explore your surroundings thoroughly, gather information and establish a spy network. Be sure to recruit the right allies as well, as their special abilities are essential for your progress in the game.
