Updated chip

The Apple Watch Series 12 features the new S11 chip with a 4-core Neural Engine, Apple’s most powerful Apple Watch chip yet. The chip is based on the powerful A20 Pro in the iPhone 18 range and works with the new Health Sensing System to regularly measure and process your heart rate and other health data throughout the day. The S11 also processes your sleep, activity and other health data for your daily readiness score. This tells you, for example, whether your body is ready for an intense workout or whether you should take it easier. With 64 GB of storage, you have the space you need to keep your music, apps and other content directly on your Apple Watch.

Health apps

The Apple Watch Series 12 uses the new Health Sensing System to collect data about your body. Updated sensors on the back of the watch make this possible. The optical sensor uses green LEDs to measure changes in the blood flow beneath your skin every 5 seconds and uses this data to calculate your heart rate. The Apple Watch also measures your heart rate variability, or HRV: the variation in time between 2 consecutive heartbeats. This value can provide information about how your body responds to stress and recovery. The Series 12 also tracks various data during exercise. In the Workout app, you can record activities such as walking, running, cycling, swimming and strength training, and track your time, heart rate and calories burned.

It also tracks your sleep: the Apple Watch Series 12 gives you a sleep score based on your sleep duration, regularity, how often you wake up and your different sleep stages.

All this data comes together in the new readiness score. Your Apple Watch looks at your recent measurements and gives you a score from 0 to 10 every day. For example, if you slept poorly and haven’t recovered as well, your Watch may suggest taking it a little easier that day.

Design

The Apple Watch Series 12 is available in 2 sizes. If you prefer a smaller smartwatch, there’s the 42 mm version. For a larger display, go for the 46 mm Apple Watch Series 12. Both sizes are available in 3 materials: aluminium, titanium and ceramic. The aluminium version comes in Dark Bronze, Light Gold, Black and Space Gray, the titanium Apple Watch Series 12 in Radiant Gold and Natural, and the ceramic version in Pearl White and Night Blue. The aluminium models feature Ceramic Shield 2, which is 60% stronger than the Ion-X glass on the Series 11. The titanium and ceramic models have a sapphire crystal display. All versions feature an Always-On Retina display with a brightness of up to 2,000 nits and are water resistant to 50 metres and suitable for swimming at depths of up to 6 metres. The Series 12 is also available in a Cellular version, which lets you make calls, send messages and stay online on the go without having your iPhone with you.

AI features

With Audio Intelligence, the Apple Watch Series 12 introduces new Apple Intelligence features that recognise and process sounds around you. Sound Recognition identifies important sounds such as alarms, sirens or smoke alarms and sends a notification to your Watch. The smartwatch also automatically recognises music with Shazam by matching sounds around you with millions of songs. The Series 12 also supports Workout Buddy. When used with your iPhone and AirPods, this feature can analyse your workout data while you exercise and give you personalised feedback based on your heart rate, pace and previous workouts. Thanks to the S11 chip with a 4-core Neural Engine, the Apple Watch can process these AI features directly on the watch without needing your iPhone.

This means you can wear your Apple Watch throughout the day while it continues to track your activity, heart rate, sleep and recovery, giving you a complete picture of your health. With fast charging, you can charge the battery to 80% in about 30 minutes, so you can start using it again after a short charge.
