Where to place your combined detector?

A combined detector is a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in one. Smoke rises, and carbon monoxide spreads through the air. Therefore, there is no universally perfect location; the best location depends on your situation.

In the Netherlands, it is legally required to have a smoke detector on every living floor and in enclosed spaces through which a escape route passes.

In addition to meeting legal requirements, we advise you to optimize fire safety in your home by installing smoke detectors in strategic locations:

• Areas with combustion appliances: Place combined detectors in rooms with potential carbon monoxide sources, such as boilers, gas heaters, water heaters, or fireplaces. CO is colorless and odorless, so early detection is essential.
• Escape routes: Install smoke detectors in hallways and near stairs, especially if they lead to bedrooms. This ensures smoke is detected quickly, allowing you to react in time.
• Bedrooms: Install smoke detectors in or near bedrooms so the alarm can also alert residents at night.
