The story is set in contemporary New York City. It centers on Vera, a woman considered the best actress in the world, and her struggle to follow up performances and personal life responsibilities. She turns down a lead role in an upcoming project by the most renowned new director in Hollywood because she doesn't think she can realistically kill anyone on screen. Vera's coke-addicted ex-boyfriend then comes along and Vera does the very thing she said she couldn't do.
