The 35 mm full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor features 24.2 megapixels of resolution, backlighting and an on-chip lens with no gap for exceptional sensitivity and dynamic range. Twice the data readout speed is achieved through copper wires and front-end LSI.

Completely enhanced image processing system

A combination of a modern image processing system and a new sensor achieve an improvement in image quality of up to 1.5 stops. A very wide sensitivity range of up to ISO 51,200 is standard, and a dynamic range of up to about 15 stops is achieved at low-sensitivity settings. Upgraded Detail Representation and Area Noise Reduction combine to provide noise reduction and ensure high overall resolution. Color reproduction is greatly improved, especially when it comes to skin tones or nature scenes. The α7 III also supports 14-bit RAW output, even during silent shooting/continuous shooting.

Bigger, faster, more stable AF

An advanced image processing system and AF algorithms optimized for the α9 camera to improve the α7 III's AF speed, precision, and tracking performance. Autofocus with 693 detection points and autofocus with 425 contrast points ensure a wide range with high density. Thanks to up to twice the AF speed and more precise AF tracking, you can take pictures and stay focused when shooting a fast-moving subject with unpredictable movements. The α7 III's autofocus also remains reliable at brightness levels up to EV-3.
